If there are any questions you have that are not covered here, please contact me.
Does it hurt?
Don't worry, acupuncture is not like pricking your finger with a sewing needle or having an injection or blood test. Acupuncture needles are as fine as one or two human hairs, so it is not paintful, however, you may feel a brief sting followed by a dull ache, tingling or similar sensation as the needle connects with your Qi.
Is it safe?
Yes. When practiced by a qualified practitioner acupuncture is very safe.
Is it confidential?
Yes, I abide by a strict code of confidentiality.
How many sessions do I need?
Five Element acupuncture aims to use as few treatments as is possible to help you regain your health. It will vary depending on each individual and how long the condition has been present. Usually, treatments are weekly to begin with for 4-5 weeks – while some may not need this many, others may need more. With improvements visits become less frequent.
Where do the needles go?
The number of points varies per treatment but is usually between 4 and 10. If there is an area where you are particularly sensitive, I can choose another acupuncture point on a different part of your body.
Will I need to get undressed?
This depends on the acupuncture points I am using, but please be reassured that your modesty will always be preserved with blankets and clothing.
Can I combine acupuncture with other treatments?
Yes. Acupuncture is safe to use alongside western medicine and other complementary medicines. Please inform me of any other treatments you currently have or introduce during the course of treatment.
