about me acupunture

The relationship between patient and pracititoner is extremely important as it can enhance the effectiveness of treatments. This effect is not placebo but it is based on the quality of relationship allowing a greater ease of communication, and a greater understanding, between patient and practitioner. So it follows that you should know a bit about me and the way I work. There's some information below and you're welcome to call or meet me for a chat before you commit to treatments. This carries no obligation at all as the most important thing is that you find the right practitioner for you, that way you will gain the best results.

Acupuncture is a vocation for me and I have the utmost dedication and respect for this system of medicine and the way it can touch people's lives. I believe I'd been preparing to study acupuncture for years before I started the acpuncture degree. Firstly, through studying art at art college where everything I did was centred around the natural world, I began to understand nature and its laws. The understanding of natural laws forms the foundation of all Traditional Chinese Medicine.

My own ill health left me unsatisfied with conventional treatment options and led me to using nutrition, herbs and other alternative therapies to aid my road to recovery. This changed not only my health but also my perspective on life. I worked in publishing at the time on mind-body-spirit titles and my interest, knowledge and enthusiasm grew. Today I see all this as preparation for my journey into becoming an acupuncturist. Two years living in Japan, where acupuncture is mainstream, opened me to the potential of acupuncture and I came back to the UK to study at the College of Traditional Acupuncture . Acupuncture has become my passion – being an acupuncturist is not just a job for me, it's a way of life. Personal development underpins professional development, and while I attend regular continuting professional development courses in acupuncture, I also regularly practice mediation techinques such as vipassana , yoga, and 5Rhythms dance to enhance my own Qi and receptivity to it, which ultimately ehances one's effectiveness as a practitioner.

I have a first class BA (Hons) degree in Five Element Traditional Acupuncture. I treated at the College of Traditional Acupuncture in Warwick for a year, and in Bristol since May 2009. I believe in learning for life and keep up-to-date with continuing professional development training. I have special interests in treating digestive issues, emotional and mental health issues, and fertility, however, my experience of treatments covers many more conditions than these. I have full professional and indemnity and public liability insurance and abide by the British Acupuncture Council's codes of professional conduct.
